Flip-flops at Mass got you down?

While preparing for a book review to be posted soon, I came across a post at Fr. Longenecker's blog which would book-end the entry on Manners at Mass quite nicely. From his entry, Mantilla the Hon on Sneakers at Mass:

What about the servers at Mass? There they are wearing robes and serving at Mass and you see them wearing old sneakers underneath. You know these sneakers sometimes smell like dead weasels. This is not good. Then one time I see this girl wearing flip flops with sequins on them. Another girl is wearing slingback sandals in hot pink. I'm not lying. One time I see a boy wearing those sneakers that have wheels built in and he's rolling down the aisle on them for a minute. Another time this boy is kneeling down at Mass and he has red lights flashing all around the heel of his sneakers. What kind of dumb is this? Eh?

Check out Fr. Longenecker's blog. Even 'Mikey likes it, and he hates everything.' ;)

Obama to Tax the Unborn, saying "Even tissue surely has the patriotic duty"

In a surprise press conference in the UK, Mr. Obama addressed the 'death tax' which will be reinstated as part of the current budget. The tax was supposed to fall to 0% in 2009 as enacted by the Bush administration but if you wield a magnifying glass and hold it closely over footnote 1 on page 127 of the budget, you will see that Obama isn't about to let that happen.

When a savvy reporter from a small upstate New York newspaper asked him what this means for the millions of fetuses and embryos surely to be exterminated under his watch, he responded by saying, "What you -- are talking about -- is -- -- a clump of cells. Tissue." Obviously shaken by the lack of words on his teleprompter he continued, "Even tissue --- surely has the patriotic duty -- to contribute to society. Secretary Geitner -- is -- looking at -- how we would go about -- including these tissues ---- in the estate tax." When the follow up question addressed the fact that there must be a death of a human in order for there to be an estate tax, Mr. Obama replied without hesitation, "Tissue is tissue -- it is just that. I have one in my pocket right now. It isn't human and I'm sure I paid sales tax on it." With that, he smiled and made a quick exit.

If the 'Modernists' Had Their Way: Mr. Bean and the Creed

Below is a spoof, not of the Apostles Creed, but of those who think they know better than the Church; the dissenters who say she is too old fashioned, not loving enough, not inclusive enough. After learning that the Diocese of Rochester recently installed a temporary labyrinth in their Cathedral, I wonder if Bishop Matthew Clark would perhaps prefer his female priestesses hand out leaflets with an altered Nicene Creed at the Holy Mass. This coupled with a 'super-soaker' filled with holy water should be a great inspiration to the average dissident. We wouldn't want anyone to be uncomfortable, would we? ;) Watch the video, laugh and then pray.

"For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths." (2 Tim 4:3-4)

Lint at Burger King

My dear husband works in a very busy suburb of Rochester, NY where the traffic often gobbles up half of his one hour lunch break. Last Friday he stopped in at Burger King to grab a fish sandwich since it was not far from work. When he approached the counter and placed his order, the lady looked at him and said, "Okay, what is going on here?! Why are so many people ordering fish today? Something weird is going on." He simply told her that it is Friday and since it is Lent, a lot of people eat fish on that day. She looked at him only further confused and asked, "Lint? What lint?" Known for his gift of brevity, he ditched the opportunity to over-the-counter evangelize and left it up to her fellow employees to explain. I can only imagine what she thought if she worked on Ash Wednesday and saw a lot of people coming in with dirt on their foreheads.

I think I'll put a few Lenten booklets I picked up from the table at church and stuff them in his coat pocket. Next time someone asks him about lint on his lunch break, he can give one to them.
